The favourites to win the FA Cup

As the FA Cup continues to unfold with thrilling fixtures and dramatic encounters, the race for glory is heating up, and a few standout teams are emerging as the favourites to lift the coveted trophy.

With the fourth round on the horizon, presenting the chance for giants to affirm their chances and lower-league sides to cause an upset, let’s delve into the frontrunners and their prospects in this season’s FA Cup.

Manchester City

Defending champions Manchester City are leading the charge as the 10/3 favourites to retain their title and secure an eighth FA Cup triumph.

Pep Guardiola’s side, fresh off a historic treble last season, commenced their campaign with a commanding 5-0 victory over Huddersfield Town.

However, a challenging trip to Tottenham Hotspur awaits them in the fourth round, adding an element of intrigue to their title defence.

Liverpool

Liverpool, the 2022 FA Cup champions thanks to a penalty shootout win over Chelsea, are having a stellar season domestically.

Sitting atop the Premier League table and reaching the semi-finals of the EFL Cup, the Reds are proving to be a formidable force.

A 2-0 win over Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium in the third round has further solidified their credentials.

With a potential clash against either Norwich City or Bristol Rovers on the horizon, Liverpool are certainly among the favourites to add another FA Cup to their trophy cabinet.

Manchester United

Despite an eight-year FA Cup drought, Manchester United are listed as the third favourites at 9/1 in the FA Cup odds to clinch the trophy.

The Red Devils, under the management of Louis van Gaal, last secured FA Cup glory in 2016, but they have reached the final twice in the six seasons — losing to Chelsea and Man City.

A 2-0 victory over Wigan Athletic in the third round sets them on course, and a match against either Newport County or non-league side Eastleigh awaits in the next round.

Chelsea

Chelsea, known for their consistent FA Cup performances in the last 20 years or so, stand as the fourth favourites at 10/1.

Despite challenges in their ongoing season, the Blues showcased their cup prowess with a 4-0 triumph over Preston North End at Stamford Bridge in the third round.

A clash against fellow Premier League side Aston Villa awaits them in the fourth round, and Chelsea remain a formidable contender for FA Cup glory.

Other contenders

Beyond the top contenders, teams with rich histories in the FA Cup are also vying for success.

Newcastle United, with six FA Cup titles, Tottenham Hotspur, seeking their first win since 1991 and ninth overall, and Brighton & Hove Albion, yet to secure the cup, are all listed at 12/1.

Each of these teams carries their own narrative and aspirations, adding to the intrigue of this season’s FA Cup.

As the tournament progresses, football fans can expect more twists and turns, but for now, Manchester City, Liverpool, Manchester United, and Chelsea are the frontrunners to etch their names into FA Cup history once again.
